Anne Carter Jones
aka "A.C."
From breeding and raising the youngster above, to training a client's horse for the show ring, or coaching my student to that level; my passion for teaching horses and their humans remains forever keen.

Unique to this area, I coach all levels...from Short Stirrup through Medal/Maclay Equitation. I train horses from ground level, literally from foaling to the final show of the horse's first show season.
I may put the saddle on a 2-yr. old for the first time or strengthen a "weak bend" to improve the lead change. I spend as much time as it takes in a lesson for my student to leave the ring with a sense of accomplishment.
I continue to show myself and for clients, starting with the Baby-Green Hunters and arriving at the Working Divisions. It thrills me to start a schooling jumper and then watch its progression to the Children's/Adult or Junior/Amateur Jumpers with a new pilot.
Often asked, "Do you teach dressage?" I reply, "Of course. All good horsemanship, regardless of the discipline, is based on a foundation of dressage." I place strong emphasis on communication with horse through proper balance built on a solid foundation of the accurate use of the rider's natural aids.

Home-bred, raised and trained Scattered Frost currently owned by Paige Wilson of Charlotte, NC
Growing up, I started teaching my friends in the neighborhood how to use the correct aids to ride my shetland pony...right in my family's back yard.
From that time, with the loving support of all my family, I never stopped riding, competing, teaching a technique or coaching at shows. Immediately after receiving my BA degree in English in the 1970's, I moved from my homeland Virginia to Sewickley, PA to work under brothers Brian and Kevin Lenehan and Leslie (then Lenehan) Howard. Kevin was just beginning to show A Touch of Class (an off-the-track TB mare) in the green hunters. She was a energetic, requiring a fair amount of preparation and free time (outside of her stall) for which I took a great deal of responsibility. In 6 short years, A Touch of Class advanced to win the Individual Gold Medal for Show Jumping with Joe Fargis in the 1984 Olympic Games. Brian was also competing a gorgoeous bay gelding called Chads Ford, the leading green comformation hunter in the U.S. . Chad was my charge from the time Brian stepped off his back until he jogged back for the winner's lineup. I was responsible for his impeccable turn-out, everything from the perfect braid job to his oiled hooves.

Camden Jones aboard.
A native of Virginia, North Carolina became home for family and AC in 1982. Her credentials are evidenced by many honors and accomplishments awarded the last 35 years. In 1969, she held the destinction of being the youngest competitor ever to ride as a VHSA Hunter Seat Medal Finalist. In 1971, Anne Carter won the High Score Award for the trial year of the VHSA Pony Equitation competition and in '72 won the VHSA Pony Equitation Finals.
Due to severe shoulder injury in 1974, her last year of competition as a junior was nearly erased. Able to ride just three days before the VHSA Hunter Seat Medal Finals, Anne Carter made her mark by winning the (33%) written phase with a 99.5 score. In six weeks, A.C. admirably rode her self-trained 3-year old TB mare to the AHSA National Hunter Seat Medal Finals at Harrisburg, PA.
Over the years A.C. gained immeasurable knowledge working with notoble professionals such as Brian and Kevin Lenehan, Bill Graves, Katie Monahan (Prudent) and Greg Best. In 1983, Hunting Oaks Farm was established near Greensboro, NC which was home Anne Carter with husband, George and daughter, Camden. For 22 years the family operated the boarding, training, teaching and show facility, usually accommodating 30 horses at any giving time.
